Comedians obviously tend to look at the funnier things in life. But do you know who why they have great senses of humor? Because they’re linked to mental health issues! Who’d have thought that?
According to a study that was conducted by researchers from Oxford University as reported by BBC News on their website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-25747068), they score highly when it comes to characteristics that are associated with mental health issues, as the creative elements that are needed for humor in the first place share similarities to people who have psychosis! Boy, you sure learn something new every day, huh?
The philosophy that creativity in art and mental health go hand in hand is something you normally wouldn’t comprehend but it is something that has gotten the attention of the public.
So being unusual (which is being anything but normal basically) could be the secret to being funny to begin with!
Now seen as I’m Autistic and a stand up comedian (two stereotypes for the price of one), I can get behind that because, well, I’m anything but normal, which is the way to be nowadays because being normal doesn’t exist anymore in today’s society I think.
So you can see, comedians that have mental health issues always try to look on the bright side of life. I mean take me, I tell people I have Asperger’s Syndrome, but also that I’m Autistic, I’m being pedantic about my Autism basically! Well look at it this way I’m a bit pedantic and a bit autistic both! I know, a bit worrying…
